Social Connectedness – Bringing Warmth and Connection
Our Social Connectedness Development Worker, Amanda Dolan, recently visited a Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary’s Church, Chesterfield, where over 100 trees were decorated by businesses, local community groups and organisations.
The event provided a drop-in space for the community and featured trees that united people, such as a remembrance tree where visitors could place photos or names of loved ones lost to suicide.
Christmas time can be challenging for many reasons, and loneliness can be exacerbated. Feeling low isn’t limited to Mondays or random days in January. The Christmas tree shown here was decorated by a community group formed in March as part of the warm spaces network, offering a welcoming space for socialising and crafting. Local community groups are crucial all year round for providing opportunities to meet and socialise in friendly, welcoming environments.
If you are looking for a group to try in the Dales or would like to chat about starting one, please get in touch with Amanda, Social Connectedness Development Worker, 01629 812154 ext.1 or email amanda@ddcvs.org.uk
