Looking After You Too – a course for parents of children with SEND

The SEND Dynamic C.I.C. recently ran its Looking After You Too course in the Derbyshire Dales for parents of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The 8-week psycho-education course with therapy content was led by neurodivergent psychotherapist Sarah Knee.

Looking after a family with SEND can be challenging, and struggling to get the right help in place for them at school can be overwhelming.  Finding help and understanding can sometimes feel impossible.

The SEND Dynamic C.I.C. Manager Vicky Wright said “It can also be especially difficult to prioritise your own needs as a parent when you are so busy working hard to get help for your children. This is why The SEND Dynamic created Looking After You Too to help parents carve out some time for themselves to focus on their own mental health. We were delighted to be awarded the Growing Golden Opportunities grant to bring support to parents in the Dales”.

Parents learned new techniques designed to reduce worry and improve their anxiety management and will continue to meet each Monday morning at The Lime Tree in Matlock at 10am for ongoing peer support and help/advice from The SEND Dynamic C.I.C.

Looking After You Too will run in Ashbourne in spring 2025. Interested parents can register their interest via the website. www.theSENDdynamic.co.uk
