Highlights from our recent Great Get Together

DDCVS had a fantastic virtual Social Connectedness Great Get Together on June 5th 2024, where local charities and community groups discussed various initiatives to foster community connections.

The event opened with beautiful live music performed by the District Musicians CIC; a group that visit people with dementia in the community and play music and instruments with them.

We welcomed guest speakers James and Richard from the Jo Cox Foundation who ran a short fun connection activity where participants had to find something they all shared in common. One group found that they had all visited Scotland!

They continued to talk about the Big Get Together national campaign and shared helpful information and tips gained from research to help connect better with members of the public, such as having a meet and greet person, creating welcoming spaces and overcoming barriers to attending groups.

Finally, the groups had a chance to chat to each other about the session and their own group activities.

The next DDCVS Social Connectedness event will be on 25th September 2024 in Bakewell.

Members of the public, charities and community groups in the Dales area will be welcome to attend.

More information will be available nearer the time on the DDCVS newsletter. Contact Amanda, Development Worker 01629 820974 (option 1) amanda@ddcvs.org.uk for more information about this event or our future event.
